2015 Classics Challenge: The Last Unicorn

I have been dying to read The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle since I found out it was, in fact, a book. As you may recall, I rather enjoyed The Last Unicorn animated movie when I was young. When I first picked up the book, I will admit, I was hesitant. What if I didn’t love it the way I love the movie? What if it was too different?

I worried for nothing. It’s perfect. Come to find out, Peter S. Beagle wrote the screenplay for the movie. After reading the book,  you can tell. It’s practically word for word (with the novel having more words, of course). I was delighted the whole, entire time. I just loved it.

Now that I’ve read it myself, I’m reading it to my daughter. There are a few words I’m omitting for her young ears, but nothing terrible. She’s just as delighted with it as I am.

I would also like to note that the cover art for this edition is just beautiful. Look at it! Isn’t it lovely?!?

Favorite classic book of all time? Yes, I believe so.

  1. You know there is also a song that Kenny Loggins did for the movie right, called The Last Unicorn, and it’s amazing! In fact his whole children’s album – Return to Pooh Corner – is amazing, and I still listen to it.
