I often get asked if my books are “clean.” Since everyone defines clean differently, that’s a difficult question to answer. I can’t say whether I write your definition of clean books, but I do write closed-door books, meaning no on-page steam.
For more detailed information on each series, I’ve created this content guide.
I would like to point out that most of my books are written for an adult audience. So while they are still “cleaner,” I personally wouldn’t recommend them for young teen readers, and definitely not for middle-school-aged. If in doubt, please read them before you give them to your kids.
The Eldentimber Series:
Category: Young Adult PG – PG-13
Sweet/passionate kisses, mild innuendo, fantasy violence, mild profanity, magic, and magical creatures.
Important note: Seirsha (book three) deals with difficult topics, and though I tried to handle them gracefully, I would not consider it a clean book. If you would like details, read the reviews.
Silver and Orchids (Original and Greybrow Brothers):
Category: Young Adult/New Adult PG – PG-13
Passionate kisses, mild profanity, mild/moderate innuendo, man chests, fantasy violence, human mages, monster violence, magical creatures, and married closed door.
Fairy Tale Kingdoms
Category: Young Adult PG
Sweet kisses, mild innuendo, fantasy violence, human mages, monster violence, magical creatures, and one partial nudity scene in The Marquise and Her Cat that was not described in detail. (The character was behind a large rock, and it lined up with events from the original fairy tale.)
The Riven Kingdoms
Category: New Adult PG-13
Passionate kisses, mild profanity, mild innuendo, man chests, fantasy violence, monster violence, magic, and married closed door.
Royal Fae of Rose Briar Woods
Category: New Adult PG-13
Passionate kisses, mild profanity, mild innuendo, man chests, fantasy violence, magic, alcohol use, and married closed door.
Crown and Crest
Category: New Adult PG-13
Passionate kisses, mild/moderate profanity (it depends on what you consider a swear word), mild/moderate innuendo, man chests, fantasy violence, monster violence, magic users (human and elf), blood magic (villains), partial nudity (very mild unless you’re sensitive and less than you’d see at a swimming pool), and married closed door.
Obsidian Queen
Category: New Adult Urban Fantasy PG-13
Passionate kisses, mild/moderate profanity (“crap” and “hell”), moderate innuendo, man chests, alcohol use, fantasy violence, monster violence, magic users, married closed-door.
Note: (Contains spoilers) A few of the make-out scenes in these books happen on a bed, but there are no fade-to-black scenes before marriage. In the final book, Madeline removes her wedding dress, but she remains in modest undergarments until the closed-door scene.
Chronicles of GHOST
Category: Adult Paranormal Fantasy PG-13
This series is nowhere near complete, but here’s what I’m expecting:
Passionate kisses, mild/moderate profanity (it depends on what you consider a swear word), mild/moderate innuendo, man chests, fantasy violence, paranormal violence, and possibly married closed door.
Note: Since this is a paranormal series, the violence is ramped up a bit. I don’t like to write anything terribly graphic, but you can expect blood, fangs, stakes, and other things of that nature.
A Vampire’s Guide to Gardening
Category: Adult Contemporary Fantasy PG-13
Passionate kisses, mild/moderate profanity (“crap” and “hell”), moderate innuendo, man chests, fantasy violence, references to biting, married closed-door, and several vampire attacks.
Like Chronicles of GHOST, this one has paranormal elements, so you should expect blood, fangs, stakes, and so on. I’m a wimp when it comes to blood and such, so I don’t go into a lot of detail.
Note: (Contains spoilers) In the final book, Piper and Noah are in a relationship, and they do discuss sex, and there are several make-out scenes, several on a bed. However, they are both committed to waiting until marriage. He loses his shirt. She stays fully clothed until the wedding night, and even then, she stays in extremely modest undergarments until the fade-to-black.
Owls, Tea Shops, and Other Magical Nuisances
Category: Adult Contemporary Fantasy PG-13
I’m in the middle of the series, so I don’t know for certain what we’re going to run into, but here’s what I’m expecting:
Passionate kisses, mild/moderate profanity (at worst, words like “crap” and “hell”), mild/moderate innuendo, man chests, and mild fantasy violence.
Note: This is a cozy, happy series, but I’m writing it for adults, so it might not be appropriate for teen readers. (I suspect it will be fine for older teens, but I don’t want to make any promises just yet. Please read the books before you give them to your kids.)
