Hi everyone!
It’s been a while since I’ve done a trope post, but I thought it would be fun to do one today! (Tropes are basically themes that some books share. For example, a popular fantasy trope is the Chosen One–think Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.) They can also be certain character types, which this post will focus on today. I don’t write with tropes in mind, because I destroy them when I do, but I do enjoy seeing which ones pop up organically.
I think the last trope post I did was “Stuck Together” (also known as Forced Proximity), and today, we’re doing Charming Rogue. Many of my favorite male leads are Charming Rogues. They also happen to be some of my readers’ favorites, according to polls I’ve done. Let’s leap into the list!
My “Charming Rogue” Heroes:
Captain Avery Greybrow
Avery is one of my favorite Charming Rogues, and he’s been at the top of my reader polls since he waltzed down the gangplank of his ship and into Lucia’s life. Meet him in the Silver & Orchids series, and then read about his sons’ adventures in the spinoff, Greybrow Brothers.
Prince Irving of Primewood
Irving showed up in Pippa of Lauramore without invitation, and I knew right away he was going to need his own book. His story was a bit tricky, as all signs pointed toward a relationship with Rosie in Anwen of Primewood. But when I went to write their book, they would not be put together. I soon discovered that’s because he was meant to be with Audette. Read his story in Audette of Brookhaven.
Jonathan
Jonathan is a little Charming Rogue and a little Valiant Knight, but I think he leans toward Charming Rogue, and that’s why I’ve placed him here. (It’s the banter, guys. It’s all about the banter.) I’d tell you more, but…spoilers. Just go read the series. It’s one of my favorites.
Felix
Oh, Felix. He stole my heart in The Vampire Hunter and the Heiress, and I couldn’t wait to tell his and Catriona’s story in their own book. He’s the very definition of a Charming Rogue, complete with a dimple, a handsome smirk, and a knack for heart-stopping banter. The book released yesterday, so now is the perfect time to dive into the series!
And now, a few honorable mentions:
Tryndon from Riven Kingdoms
Lawrence from Crown and Crest
Ayan…also from Crown and Crest
Lukas from Greybrow Brothers (I was on the fence. I feel like at heart, he’s a Cinnamon Roll, but he’s so good at banter. What are your thoughts?)
I hope you enjoyed this week’s collection!
Wishing you the best,
Shari

I definitely agree with Avery, Jonathon and Felix! I’ll have to go back and reread Audette to remember Irving. But I just loved Felix! He was delightful in his determined sincerity, and perseverance. His first move in acheiving his objective was priceless!
